The Trapp Family

I LOVE family documentary sessions. As a photographer they let me capture those small, normal moments in the day that typically go unnoticed but have great significance. As a mother of two small kids, I understand how busy and sometimes monotonous family life can feel. When you’re in the midst of it, sometimes it’s hard to see the big picture and the beauty of it all.
Which brings me to another reason I love photographing family documentary sessions. They allow me to tease out those small moments for parents so they can see what an awesome job they are doing. And they are left with an album of images that forever encapsulates what it felt like to be a family today, in this moment. I know that as time passes these memories will only grow in value.
I first photographed Lilly and Mike when they were engaged and it was so lovely to catch up with them during this session. After I sent Lilly their session slideshow in response she said this, “I didn’t expect the emotional response that just happened- because in the busyness of the day these moments are overlooked and quickly forgotten.”
That really sums up why documentary family sessions are so special and why I love photographing them. Thank Lilly and Mike for welcoming my into your home! You are incredible parents!
